HOW TO STAY WARM & STYLISH
It can be a challenge staying warm and stylish, which is why your helpful Style Experts at STYLE OUR SOULS have put together some tips, ideas and looks when it comes to wrapping up warm in style when it’s cold outside
5 KEY TIPS TO FOLLOW
1. FAUX FUR
Faux Fur is back for another winter season and we predict it won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Mainly because it is a definite stylish way of keeping warm!
Faux fur coats are a great cover up for day or evening and really lift a casual look. A gilet (think a coat with the sleeves missing!) is a great option which will see you through into spring. Opt for a neutral colour you can literally just throw on over everything
This one from New Look is great, although it’s a bit pricier than some we’ve spotted on the high st, it’s worth it as you don’t want faux fur to look cheap. If you do find a cheaper version, ensure the faux fur has a more ‘expensive look’ about it
2. CUTE COZY KNITS & SWEATER DRESSES
Knitwear doesn’t have to be twee or boring, it’s just about going for the right kind for not only your shape, but also in its style. So, look for added detailing, e.g. embellishments, unusual hemline or something different that makes it a bit more interesting than, well, a plain jumper!
Sweater dresses are a super stylish way of keeping warm, smart and stylish and make for a great work option if your office is a little on the chilly side! Team with heels or shoe boots for a smart look or long boots in a riding or cowboy style for a casual take. Throw on a leather jacket or blazer over the top and you’re good-to-go!
STRIPE KNIT DRESS – KAREN MILLEN £125
3. DON’T COMMIT SHOE-ICIDE
Now this is a real ‘style peeve’ of ours and you’ve probably heard us harp on about how your shoes or coats will ruin your look in an instant if they’re not right, but it really is a style fact!
There’s no worse time for ‘shoe-icide’ than the winter months, when practicality has to take over style. Therefore, we recommend some stylish long flat boots or wedges are a great heeled option
Emma, our Founder has just taken delivery of these beauties and can vouch that her feet have never been so warm, snuggly and stylish! No ‘shoe-icide’ in sight!
4. CUTE ACCESSORIES
Accessories are such a key element of your wardrobe, year-round for so many reason, namely because they can lift a look or change a look in an instant.
Scarves, gloves, hats, cute adornments like brooches and hair accessories can play a significant role in your winter warm stylish wardrobe!
FAUX FUR SNOOD – ASOS.co.uk £18
Snoods (a scarf that doesn’t end!) look great added to any outerwear and actually bring thinner jackets into the colder months with the added warmth. A snood or scarf in faux fur, like this one from ASOS, add glam, elegance and style to any look day or night
UGG BAILEY BUTTON GLOVES – ASOS.co.uk £110
If you’re headed to even colder climes, you really can’t beat the benefit of wearing shearling and we love how UGG have taken their range into other areas with these fab scarves and gloves. These would look great over a sweater dress or thinner jacket on a slightly warmer day too
5. WINTER CLASSICS
There are a few classics no winter wardrobe should be without. Natural fabrics such as cashmere and wool are timeless classics that will always keep you warm on a cold day and still stand up in the style stakes
ORANGE CAPETOWN CASHMERE COAT – ASOS.co.uk £275
Pricey, we hear you, but stay with us! On a ‘cost-per-wear’ basis, you would definitely get your money’s worth out of a stylish coat like this one featured and keep warm and snuggly at the same time! The colour makes a statement and keeps your look interesting, where it is all too easy to reach for the dull blacks and greys in the dark, cold months
Long-standing British brands like Barbour and Hunter have come to the fashion fore over the past couple of years, simply because they are true classics that were made for outdoor living in the wind and rain we face in the UK! So why not wear what was made for our climate! Both brands have introduced new colours and styles which really add a classic look to your winter wardrobe and keep you stylish as you head to a warm, cozy country pub for a warm up!
Often shunned by the ‘fash pack’, if you really want to keep warm, there is no better option than UGGs. The trick to keeping this look stylish is to keep the outfit you wear with them ‘cute’. So we’re talking cute casual skirts and shorts (if you’ve got the legs and confidence) with 100 denier black opaque tights or over skinny jeans with a slim-fitting knit! TAKE NOTE: we’re not giving licence for you to wear with baggy jeans and a baggy jumper!
Hope that gives you some ideas on how to refresh your ‘warm, cozy wardrobe’ and stay stylish through the cold snap!
